Absolutely amazing sailing for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (the 150th anniversary day). Tuesday was the rerunning of the Around the Isle of Wight Race that America won in 1851 that started the whole America's Cup competition.
South Australia (Russell Coutts) leading Australia II (John Bertrand)
just past the Needles in the Around the Isle of Wight Race.
A little pre-race inspection on the K boat Cambria
Coming downwind back into the Solent from the Needles on Sunday's race.
GBR Challenge leading just after the start of the Around the Isle of
Wight Race which they eventually won.
GBR Challenge still leading after rounding the Needles!
She eventually won the Round the Island Race but only after a bit of
a scene near the finish
and a visit to the protest room to extract a penalty against Prada.
Some of the Italian boys were out to keep things interesting, but ended
up outsmarting themselves.
The Twelve Meters were sailed together but scored in three groups:
Classic, Modern and Grand Prix.
Columbia USA 16 is one of the Classic Twelves. The break to Modern
division separated American Eagle (Classic) from Intrepid (Modern).
The most recent (1983 - 1987 vintage) Twelves that haven't been converted
to dual purpose use are the Grand Prix boats.
Along with some other classiscs like the NY50 Marilee which won top
honors in its Vintage division.
Marilee had Tom Blackwell from American YC aboard, in fact the guy
about to moon the camera looks like Tom...

Australia II sailing off Cowes on 2 August 2001 in preparation for
the Americas Cup Jubilee.
Wish I could say I took this and the next picture but I downloaded
these two shots from the AC Jubilee official site.
And if you're not sure that watching these boats sail is exciting, take
a look at this on board shot of an IACC boat.
The Americas Cup Jubilee was run the week prior to the Etchells Worlds.
The racing was based out of Cowes and sailed on the waters immediately
adjacent to Lymington.
